Eligible Category 1 expenditure is for projects and/or services that contribute to the welfare and broader social fabric of the local community, including:
- Community welfare and social services
- Community development
- Community health services
- Employment assistance activities
This year, the local area priorities for Maitland LGA are as follows:
- Initiatives that help the community reconnect and/or recover from the effects of the COVID19 pandemic including financial management, budgeting and emergency relief
- Projects aimed at overcoming social isolation, connecting people, and keeping communities safe post COVID19
- Initiatives that improve parenting and/or life skills targeted at financial management post COVID19, increasing prices, rent stress etc.
- Targeted mental health intervention and prevention initiatives for depression and suicide e.g., Free Mental Health First Aid Training
- Initiatives that build capacity to better understand and treat consequences of trauma and how it affects mental health
- Initiatives that engage community in art, culture, sport, and recreation
- Community education programs encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness and leadership development
- Initiatives that encourage a zero tolerance to all forms of domestic and family violence (including child protection initiatives) e.g., Education and Awareness programs and strategies which reduce the impacts of homelessness amongst women and children fleeing domestic violence
- Initiatives that encourage intergenerational relationship building
- Health promotion initiatives including community based healthy activities
- Initiatives that support people to age in place and sustain tenancies and strategies which reduce the impacts of homelessness
- Initiatives that support social participation for older people, people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds, multicultural communities, or young people
- Volunteering Initiatives
